hey if you guys are looking for things to do when you have free time or smth, could you guys find some unused files and such??? (and link them here pls) because there's a lot (images from ncs, unused personal files, etc.)
i mentioned this before for a bit i think but i didn't think more about it because you guys couldn't delete them, BUT i thought that even though you can't delete them, you guys could still help me with finding them.
if you guys do decide to help out, could you guys add "?action=delete" at the end of the link to the file?? (easier that way) it's basically like ?action=history if you guys were confused or smth
ALSO if you guys stumble upon personal files (how to know if they are personal files: 1. used on userpages, 2. used on comments 3. used on blogs 4. basically everything besides articles) and the same with the action thing if you can add "?action=rename" (no quotation marks) +++++ if you add ?action=rename could possibly put the username of the wiki user (but you don't have to because i'm probably going to have to check who uploaded the file anyways and suchscuuas)
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand if i'm not online for a while and there's something you might want me to check probably you can also link it here (i usually check recent changes after i'm not on for a while so yeahasdgkhshd)
Btwx2, I used to use a batch delete script, some bots, and would remove certain things from the page to help me easily delete those. I'm gonna go try to find all the tools and get them together and see if it will be easy to explain to you.
Basically what I did is go to the page of unused files and I would hide the extra text so I could just copy the thing...uhm, I'll explain it in a list:
1. Highlight over 1 of the image descriptions in the part that says "x KB" below the image title.
2. Right click and select "inspect element".
3. Make sure I'm on the right div and add "display: none;" to the CSS for "div.gallerytext". (If you browser doesn't let you do this, go on a different one, lol.) (This should hide all the text descriptions btw, meaning only the images will show.)
4. Highlight and copy all the images on the page.
When you paste that you'll have a list of just the image names and their file extension. That's not enough though, so next you need to remove all the empty lines (here is a generator you can do that with) and add "File:" to the start of each line (you can use a prefix generator like this one to help with that [fun fact:I used to use stuff like this and random word/string generators for creating categories]).
Now there is one other issue, which is the main reason I had my own bot script for this...basically the name of image in the start of each row is going to have a space in front of it and so if you try to add "File:", it'll end up like "File: Name.ext" and it won't read right and won't delete...so you'll have to remove that. There may be a way you can override it while editing the page code, but I could never be bothered to try. SO, my recommendation (for doing it as easily as possible) is just to use an extra space removal generator like this. That may accidentally mess with a file name if it has an extra space, but that'll probably only be like 1 or two of them which you can just deal with manually.
OKAY, so once you have that list, you can paste it into the script menu, put your reason for deletion, and then just let it run. If there are any errors, it'll tell you and then you can just take care of those ones manually.
i’m really really really sorry for being an idiot and not doing it. i usually enjoy renaming and deleting files but i just haven’t felt great recently and i’ve been lazy (sorry for lack of better word/explanation). ugh this just made me realize how lazy i’ve been, it’s so stupid. i’m so sorry dbee ):
